How big is big? Our male is approx. 18lbs. (slightly overweight), while the female is approx. 13lbs. It's surprising to hear that you may have a mix-breed. Skip breeders are very protective, we had to sign contracts on both of ours, have them fixed, to prevent breeding. As for your "snapping" issues, our Vet has mentioned to us that ours are the best behaved skips she's ever seen. The only time they snap is when they are having their nails clipped. The male, normally very friendly and docile turns into a Tasmanian devil. The female is "sketchy" around children who she doesn't know, especially when they try to pick her up.

I wouldn't call this breed high-strung, it would be more likely that they are fearless. Our dogs don't back down from larger dogs. Sometimes, that's not a good thing. But because of this, they make excellent watch dogs!

This is a very sensitive breed, they're very intelligent, they pick up on negative-energy, fear or changes in their surroundings. Children screaming while having fun may put them in an excited state. Overly stern commands, or a change in the tone of voice can make them retreat or attack. They also can sense the "fear" in someone who is expecting them to snap. This leads to a dominance issue, they may feel like they're the "pack-leader" not the other way around.

Other than that, I would have your vet thoroughly checkout your dog to see if there are any medical issues.

Sometimes, they are just like bad-children who don't get enough exercise and feel like the only time someone pays attention to them is when they're getting a scolding. Try this the next time your dog snaps. Don't scold, by changing your tone of voice. Ignore him/her until they come to you. Hope this helps.

It's unfortunate more Americans don't voice their frustrations with their Congress and Representatives. They have those positions because they were voted in to be there for us. So if they are not doing the job we want them to do, then do not re-elect them or save our tax dollars and eliminate their position, it's done in business every day in order to be profitable. I also think their pensions should be converted to 401k's like the rest of us. I could go on.......

Jeff, J.O.B. Just Over Broke is an acronym I picked up years ago and it's still very appropriate. Maybe I'll change it to mean Judith's Online Business ~ Now that's more positive!

Jennifer, Jerry Shambaugh is a long-time friend from when we both worked in banking. He does not write blogs but passed on the information to me, so we can thank Jerry for that. Congress is wasteful in itself, so why would we think that it would be protective of our tax dollars. Good post.

It's interesting to see where our taxes actually get spent. That much money is really hard to imagine.
